Our HF Frankentrailer in double-decker mode. |
Why, yes, honey, we certainly can! This is precisely why we bought a foldable utility trailer from Harbor Freight and had a sail buddy build removable cradles and a second deck (because why stop at one boat?).
So, in the chilly morning breeze, we hauled the blue boat onto the lawn, unbolted the cradles, and off Mike and our roommate went to get a work bench and some plywood from Menard's.
Lo and behold, he got a bench! For $50 (including clamps and some organizer drawers). It was great having that immediate validation of the trailers and the system we worked out with our buddy. The trailer will need a little more modifying this winter to help with the weight distribution issue, but we feel better about it. And when it and the boats are all tucked snug in the basement to wait out winter, we'll feel even better, because the trailer takes up less space than the workbench.
The boys carried the bench around the back and into the basement, and then we popped the cradles back in and set the boat back on. This was just before our last sail day, so I'd taken the opportunity to roll out the sail and attach the halyard on the boom. Some people put lawn gnomes and political signs in their yard. We set out boats.
For a little bit.
We don't want to get run out of the neighborhood (this could happen).
